KB968389 Post Install Issues

The Patch Management team has found post installation issues for the non-security patch update: KB968389 – Extended Protection for Authentication. This applies to Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP. After installation errors may occur when attempting to access shared resources. This patch update has been blacklisted.
We have also had a number of Partners report issues after installing this patch update. The issue has been reported to Microsoft’s Blog and MVP Forum.
Installing this patch on a BDR may result in backup failures. By default, only whitelisted security updates are deployed to BDRs by the NOC. Server patch updates are controlled through the configuration policy in the ITS Portal.
While we strongly recommend against installation, you can override the blacklist by installing the patch update through Job Management. The patch status will be listed as blacklisted; however the patch installation wizard will allow you to select the patch and deploy it to machines missing the patch update.
For information on Known Issues, please see the Microsoft Blog.

An event like this can disrupt workflow for hours, costing hundreds of dollars, if not more, in lost productivity and having a Tech come to your site on short notice to resolve the issue.
